Belgica is a sophisticated character study that explores messy interpersonal dynamics of youth using a naturalistic lens. It disrupts traditional social hierarchies and moral frameworks through its postmodern storytelling approach. While the film successfully integrates queer identities and subverts traditional male clichés, it remains limited by its specific geographic and socioeconomic focus. The lack of multi-layered racial and disability representation prevents a higher overall score. Ultimately, the film's strength lies in its emotional authenticity and its ability to present identity as an organic component of a larger existential struggle.
Category Breakdown
