Synopsis

After their plane crashes off the coast of a deserted Pacific island, the surviving members of an American soccer team find themselves in the most dire of circumstances with limited resources, dwindling food supply and no rescue coming any time soon. Team spirit evaporates as disagreements cause the group to separate into factions - a violent one lead by an unbalanced ruler, and a compassionate one led by a selfless player.

Overall Score

5.3/10

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Fair

The film lacks explicit evidence of LGBTQ+ characters or non-heteronormative identities. The narrative focuses on primal survival and factionalism rather than queer representation.

Gender Representation

Fair

The story subverts traditional masculine dominance by presenting a dichotomy of power. It pits an unbalanced, aggressive ruler against a more selfless, communal leader.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

As an American soccer team, the cast suggests potential ethnic plurality. However, the specific racial composition of the survivors is not explicitly detailed.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Good

The film deconstructs Western social contracts by showing how quickly organized structures decay. It explores the instability of social cohesion when stripped of civilization.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There is no information regarding the portrayal of physical or neurodivergent disabilities among the survivors.

Strengths

  • Subverts traditional 'strongman' tropes by contrasting aggressive and selfless leadership styles.
  • Provides a sophisticated look at the volatility of human social structures and power dynamics.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lacks explicit representation of LGBTQ+ identities or non-heteronormative perspectives.
  • Does not provide specific details regarding the racial or ethnic composition of the cast.
  • Offers no information regarding the inclusion of characters with disabilities.

AI Analysis

Eden serves as a sociological study of systemic collapse. It moves away from romanticized cooperation to examine how quickly social hierarchies dissolve under extreme pressure. The film's strength lies in its exploration of power dynamics and the breakdown of organized systems. While the setting and team structure allow for potential diversity, the narrative remains focused on the ideological fracture between factions. This focus on survivalist tension leaves several identity-based categories unaddressed or unverified.
