New Showbiz Analysis

The film succeeds in subverting gender clichés and reframing neurodivergent traits as superpowers. Annabeth Chase provides a strong model of women's ability to drive the story, and Percy's ADHD is treated with dignity. However, these successes are offset by a lack of LGBTQ+ representation and a failure to capture the specific ethnic textures of the source material. The casting leans toward a more homogeneous, mainstream aesthetic. Ultimately, the movie functions as a conventional adventure that offers meaningful character nuances but remains within the bounds of traditional storytelling.
