Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

2.9/10

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or narratives. The story focuses on individual survival following a traumatic event rather than exploring identity-based themes.

Gender Representation

Fair

Jannicke serves as a resilient female protagonist with significant agency. However, the narrative leans heavily on the traditional 'final girl' horror trope.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The setting suggests a homogeneous cast typical of regional Scandinavian thrillers. There is no evidence of a diverse or non-Anglo-Saxon majority cast.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The plot adheres to standard thriller conventions without addressing specific cultural or political agendas. It focuses on survival within a localized hospital setting.

Disability Representation

Limited

The protagonist is introduced with physical injuries from previous trauma. It remains unclear if this impairment offers genuine agency or serves merely as a tension-building device.

Strengths

  • Features a female protagonist who demonstrates significant agency and resilience.
  • Provides a central character with visible physical vulnerability and survivalist stakes.

Areas for Improvement

  • Relies on traditional horror tropes like the 'final girl' rather than subverting gender roles.
  • Lacks diversity in racial, ethnic, and LGBTQ+ representation.
  • Does not explore neurodivergent perspectives or cast actors with actual disabilities.

AI Analysis

Cold Prey II is a genre-driven survival horror that prioritizes atmospheric tension over social commentary. The narrative structure follows established tropes, focusing on a single protagonist's struggle to survive a nightmare in a deserted hospital. While the film provides a strong female lead, it does not actively subvert gender hierarchies or explore intersectional identities. The cast and setting appear culturally and racially homogeneous, consistent with regional Scandinavian productions of this era. Ultimately, the film functions as a traditional thriller. It lacks the intentionality required to challenge social norms or provide meaningful representation for marginalized groups.
