Vampire Journals operates strictly within the traditional boundaries of the Gothic horror genre. The narrative is built around a standard revenge fantasy, focusing on individualistic clichés rather than exploring social or systemic issues. The film relies on established genre conventions, particularly regarding gender and setting. While it effectively uses atmospheric storytelling, it does not attempt to challenge historical or social norms. Ultimately, the production adheres to conventional period-piece constraints. It lacks the diverse representation and exploration of multiple identities needed to move beyond a standard genre exercise.
