Synopsis

Some secrets are better left at the bottom of the ocean. Once she's in your house, there is no escape. When a struggling artist pulls a beautiful, unconscious woman from the freezing coastal waters, he thinks he’s performed a miracle. But as she recovers within the walls of his secluded home, a series of unsettling events leads him to a terrifying realization: her presence is no coincidence. She is inextricably linked to the same watery grave that claimed his family years ago.

AI Analysis

The film moves away from monolithic horror casting by utilizing a diverse ensemble, including Christian Ndonda and Sasha Van Reenen. This suggests an intentional departure from traditional, homogeneous structures often found in the genre. While the narrative centers on a male protagonist, the presence of the mermaid shifts the power dynamic and disrupts domestic stability. This setup allows for a subversion of typical genre tropes regarding agency and control. However, the film remains somewhat ambiguous regarding specific identity-based arcs. Without more detail on LGBTQ+ or disability representation, the diversity remains primarily centered on casting and thematic complexity.
