AI Analysis
While We Live is a significant piece of narrative architecture that disrupts the Western-centric gaze. By centering the African diaspora's experience of repatriation, the film moves beyond tokenism to provide characters of color with psychological depth and high agency. The film's strength lies in its intentionality regarding setting and casting. It successfully deconstructs the traditional migrant story, replacing it with a complex study of cultural reclamation and the realities of a globalized identity. However, the film's narrow focus on the central family unit results in a lack of representation for LGBTQ+ identities and disabilities.
