Abel Ferry’s film is a stylized, genre-bending exercise that prioritizes postmodern aesthetics over diverse representation. While the narrative offers socioeconomic depth through its triad of archetypal male characters—the thief, the brute, and the scholar—it remains deeply rooted in traditional social hierarchies. The film's historical setting dictates much of its demographic composition, resulting in a predominantly white, male-centric ensemble. While it successfully disrupts the seriousness of the period piece through anachronistic comedy, it does little to challenge conventional norms regarding gender or identity. Ultimately, the work functions as a dark comedy of survival. It succeeds in its stylistic blending of horror and western elements but offers minimal disruption to established social or demographic structures.
