Christmas Eve (1986) is a traditional character drama centered on restoring conventional social and familial bonds. The narrative relies on established social norms of its era, focusing on a matriarchal figure attempting to mend a broken family. The film lacks intentionality regarding storytelling that reflects multiple aspects of identity or the disruption of social hierarchies. It emphasizes Western values of kinship and seasonal ritual, providing a standard dramatic framework rather than a progressive exploration of identity. Ultimately, the work functions as a period drama where character motivations are tied to traditional roles and the emotional stakes of terminal illness.
