New Showbiz Analysis

Pohjan tähteet is a meta-cinematic comedy that emphasizes interpersonal conflict and romantic entanglements over social commentary. The plot relies on the professional and romantic tensions within a film crew to drive its comedic momentum. The film adheres strictly to the cinematic conventions of its time and place. It centers on a traditional narrative structure where the main conflicts are driven by professional hierarchies and heterosexual romance. Ultimately, the work lacks the intentionality needed to disrupt established social or cultural hierarchies, functioning instead as a character-driven comedy within a conventional framework.

Official Synopsis

Triangle comedy about a movie crew shooting a no-budget artsy film. Director Pohja is a clumsy beginner, cinematographer Törrönen an old pro, and the leading actors Igor and Merju first detest each other although the script is supposed to make them lovers. The two gradually grow closer even in real life, but the director too has set his eyepiece on Merju.
