New Showbiz Analysis

Aisha Can't Fly Away offers a focused look at the migrant experience in Cairo through the eyes of a Sudanese woman. By centering a non-Egyptian protagonist, the film provides a rare perspective on the social tensions and vulnerabilities within African migrant communities. The production excels in racial and ethnic representation, utilizing a cast that includes actors of African descent to ground the setting. This approach brings authenticity to the depiction of a neighborhood shaped by displacement and gang control. However, the film lacks breadth in other areas of identity. There is no representation for LGBTQ+ individuals or characters with disabilities, leaving these specific demographics unaddressed in the current narrative.
