The film succeeds by centering the ability to act of a character with Down syndrome, moving beyond mere plot devices to present a protagonist who actively fights for her place in society. By focusing on Laura's pursuit of a high school diploma, the story critiques systemic barriers and social cruelty faced by those with disabilities. However, the narrative lacks engagement with other underrepresented identities. There is no visible representation of LGBTQ+ themes or explicit racial the way different parts of someone's identity overlap, which limits the film's broader social scope. Ultimately, the film provides a meaningful disruption of traditional clichés by granting a character with Down syndrome significant narrative authority and a unique perspective on life's challenges.
Category Breakdown
The film does not include any explicit references to LGBTQ+ characters or stories. The main focus is on neurodiversity and social integration rather than queer identities.
Laura, a female protagonist, drives the narrative as she navigates societal expectations. However, the film’s stance on broader gender role challenges remains unclear.
As a French production, the film seems to focus on social integration within a typical European context. There is no explicit evidence of high-level racial blending or intentional diverse casting.
The narrative critiques systemic barriers by centering a protagonist who challenges standard societal milestones. It emphasizes individual ability to act against the cruelty of social institutions and traditional structures.
This is the film's core strength, centering a character with Down syndrome as a proactive agent. It avoids pity by focusing on her battle for opportunity and narrative authority.

Official Synopsis
Laura, 21, is determined to earn her High school diploma, just like anyone else. Except Laura is a bit different. She has Down syndrome. As she faces her own difficulties, she must also deal with the doubts of her loved ones and the occasional cruelty of her peers. Overcoming challenge after challenge between emotion and laughter, Laura battles for every inch of an opportunity that life tries to keep from her. Like a movie in which disability brings a fresh perspective on life challenges and the pursuit of happiness.
