Don't Hang Up stands out from typical horror by grounding its supernatural elements in the historical trauma of the Tulsa Race Massacre. This approach turns a standard haunting into a confrontation with systemic racial violence and historical accountability. The film shines in its casting and thematic depth, shifting characters of color from the periphery to the core of the narrative. By focusing on the pursuit of justice for historical wrongdoings, it overturns conventional horror clichés. While the film offers strong engagement with racial and cultural themes, it lacks explicit representation of LGBTQ+ identities or disability. The focus remains on the interplay between modern digital life and historical reckoning.
