Good

The story examines the tension between institutional authority and individual spirituality. It centers on a medium, exploring non-traditional ways of understanding reality outside of rigid social structures.

  • Exploration of spiritual and non-traditional ways of understanding reality.
  • Examination of social stratification and empathy across class lines.

Areas for Improvement

  • Absence of information regarding disability representation.

AI Analysis

Affinity is a character-driven study of female agency and social transgression. It disrupts traditional expectations by centering the emotional and spiritual lives of women operating on the fringes of the class system. The film succeeds in exploring interpersonal connections as a way to navigate oppressive social structures. However, it lacks the systemic deconstruction found in more contemporary works. While the focus on female experiences is strong, the historical setting appears to limit racial and ethnic diversity, adhering to the social hierarchies of the period.
