One summer, Dídac travels by bike along the Danube with his family, starting where the river first emerges in Germany. As they journey downstream, he begins seeing a mysterious boy, Alexander, who appears and disappears in the water. Dídac feels himself changing, drawn toward Alexander and away from his brother Biel. Their mother, Monika, who once took the same trip as a teenager, drifts into memories of a past summer love. When she sees Dídac and Alexander together, she encourages them to continue the journey alone. But as twilight falls, Dídac begins to question who Alexander truly is.

Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film centers on a sexual awakening, using the mysterious Alexander as a catalyst for Dídac’s identity. It integrates queer discovery into the core thematic fabric rather than treating it as a mere subplot.
Gender Representation
Monika subverts traditional parental roles by demonstrating significant agency. Instead of maintaining domestic stability, she recognizes her son's burgeoning identity and actively encourages his autonomy.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
As a Spanish-German co-production, the film utilizes a transnational setting. The journey along the Danube suggests a narrative that moves away from a singular, localized perspective.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The story explores subjective morality and the fluidity of memory. By linking the mother's past love to her son's present, it prioritizes personal truth over rigid social structures.
Disability Representation
There is no evidence regarding the inclusion of characters with visible or invisible disabilities in the narrative.

AI Analysis
Strange River distinguishes itself by centering queer discovery as a poetic, essential element of the human experience. The film avoids common tragic tropes, instead focusing on the sensitivity and mystery of self-discovery through Dídac's journey. The narrative also disrupts traditional family hierarchies. By giving the mother, Monika, the agency to support her son's autonomy, the film moves beyond standard coming-of-age tropes of parental oversight. While the film embraces a transnational European identity through its co-production roots, specific details regarding ethnic makeup or disability representation remain absent from the current documentation.
