AI Analysis
Smoke Signals serves as a vital disruption of the traditional Western gaze. By shifting the perspective from the colonizer to the colonized, it replaces Hollywood archetypes with an internal, lived reality of Indigenous life. The film's strength lies in its intellectual engagement with post-colonial themes. It uses the journey of Victor and Thomas to explore how memory and myth function as tools for cultural survival amidst historical displacement. While the film excels in racial authenticity and deconstructing masculinity, it remains limited in its representation of LGBTQ+ identities and female agency.
