New Showbiz Analysis

Hu Jia’s direction emphasizes the tension between personal ability to act and systemic constraints. The film makes sexual and identity exploration a primary driver of the plot rather than a secondary element. While the narrative disrupts traditional romantic binaries, it remains focused on interpersonal dynamics rather than deep explorations of gendered power hierarchies. The cultural critique is strong, framing the environment as a restrictive force that characters must navigate.
