The plot is driven by a male-led expedition, while female characters are relegated to roles defined by their relationships to the hotel or their domestic status. The film lacks intersectional depth, offering no representation of LGBTQ+ identities, multi-ethnic casts, or characters with disabilities. It reflects a localized, mid-century Finnish worldview that prioritizes conventional social stability over diverse perspectives.
