Step by Step is a claustrophobic psychological thriller that prioritizes a high-stakes power struggle over demographic breadth. The narrative structure focuses on the tension between state authority and a suspected drug trafficker, emphasizing dialogue and psychological complexity. Since the plot is a localized character study regarding criminal culpability, it lacks representation of multiple identities. The film uses moral ambiguity as its primary theme rather than diverse identities. Ultimately, the film functions as a genre-driven exploration of truth and manipulation, leaving little room for broad social representation.
