Kedarnath serves as a narrative disruption of sectarian rigidity, using a natural disaster to deconstruct artificial religious boundaries. The film prioritizes humanistic connection over institutional dogma, challenging traditional communal hierarchies in the Indian landscape. The film's strength lies in its approach to identity. By centering a relationship that crosses religious lines, it critiques the systemic friction caused by communalism and favors a narrative of coexistence. While the film lacks LGBTQ+ representation and specific disability-focused arcs, it succeeds in its social critique. It uses the physical vulnerability of labor and the chaos of the 2013 floods to expose the fragility of man-made social constructs.
