Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The story centers on a young girl and her magical dragon companion. There is no presence of non-cisnormative identities or critiques of heteronormativity.

Gender Representation

Good

Lilly disrupts traditional fantasy tropes by serving as the primary agent of power. She actively uses her magic to navigate social and academic challenges rather than remaining a passive character.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The film features a relatively homogeneous cast within a standard contemporary setting. There is no evidence of non-white majority casting or the use of metaphor to address ethnic diversity.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The narrative prioritizes themes of childhood wonder and friendship. It follows a conventional moral framework centered on developmental milestones rather than deconstructing Western institutions or religious structures.

Disability Representation

Minimal

No visible or invisible disabilities are portrayed as central to the character arcs. The narrative does not grant agency to characters with disabilities.

Strengths

  • The film subverts gendered tropes by granting a young girl central agency and magical power.
  • Lilly is an active protagonist who uses her abilities to navigate her own social challenges.

Areas for Improvement

  • The cast lacks racial and ethnic diversity, appearing relatively homogeneous.
  • There is a lack of representation for LGBTQ+ identities or non-cisnormative characters.
  • The story does not include characters with visible or invisible disabilities.

AI Analysis

Lilly the Witch succeeds in subverting gendered expectations by placing a young female protagonist in a position of primary power. This shift moves away from traditional male-centric hero archetypes common in the fantasy genre. However, the film lacks broader intersectional complexity. The narrative remains within a localized, traditional framework that does not engage with racial, LGBTQ+, or systemic cultural diversity. Ultimately, while the film offers a strong central female lead, it functions as a conventional family adventure that avoids more complex social or identity-based themes.
