New Showbiz Analysis

Twisted offers a gritty, modern twist on Dickensian themes by focusing on underrepresented identities. The film shifts away from strict 19th-century moralism to highlight the empowerment of those outside mainstream societal norms. The inclusion of a drag queen as a guardian provides a significant role in driving the story to LGBTQ+ characters. This choice challenges traditional gender hierarchies and replaces standard Victorian archetypes with more complex, non-conforming figures. However, the film's diversity profile is limited by a lack of information about racial and disability representation. While the cultural critique is strong, the scope of visible diversity remains narrow.
