Chasing Coral is a documentary that centers on scientific observation and empirical reality, focusing less on social identity politics. It highlights women as key figures in scientific investigation, showcasing their professional expertise and leadership. However, the film's central investigative team is largely homogeneous, with no significant racial or ethnic diversity. Additionally, there is no representation of LGBTQ+ identities or characters with disabilities. Despite its global scope, the film's diversity is limited to its ideological stance, which challenges the unmitigated expansion of industrial capitalism and frames the ecological crisis as a systemic issue.

Official Synopsis
Coral reefs are the nursery for all life in the oceans, a remarkable ecosystem that sustains us. Yet with carbon emissions warming the seas, a phenomenon called "coral bleaching" -- a sign of mass coral death -- has been accelerating around the world, and the public has no idea of the scale or implication of the catastrophe silently raging underwater.
