Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

3.7/10

Limited

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or non-cisnormative identities. The central conflict focuses on traditional heterosexual dynamics involving an abusive boyfriend and a married couple.

Gender Representation

Fair

Ava is granted significant agency as she navigates survival and maternal protection. The story avoids 'damsel in distress' tropes by positioning her as the primary driver of the suspense.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Minimal

There is no evidence of a focus on racial or ethnic diversity. The narrative does not suggest a non-Anglo-Saxon majority cast.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The film disrupts expectations of the nuclear family by framing a traditional married couple as a potential threat. However, it focuses on individual survival rather than systemic critique.

Disability Representation

Limited

Pregnancy serves as a physiological state that dictates the protagonist's vulnerability. There is no evidence of neurodivergence or visible physical disabilities being used as empowered character traits.

Strengths

  • The protagonist, Ava, demonstrates significant agency and autonomy while navigating life-threatening situations.
  • The narrative subverts traditional tropes by positioning a woman as the primary driver of the suspenseful arc.
  • The film effectively challenges the assumption that the nuclear family is a guaranteed source of security.

Areas for Improvement

  • The film lacks intersectional complexity and diverse demographic representation.
  • There is no evidence of LGBTQ+ characters or non-cisnormative gender identities.
  • The narrative lacks representation of neurodivergence, chronic illness, or visible physical disabilities.

AI Analysis

The film operates primarily as a genre-driven psychological thriller. It finds its strength in subverting the concept of domestic safety, challenging the idea that traditional family structures are inherently benevolent. While the narrative provides a platform for female agency, it lacks intersectional complexity. The story remains centered on a narrow set of character dynamics without broad demographic representation. Ultimately, the film prioritizes suspense and interpersonal power dynamics over social or cultural exploration.
