New Showbiz Analysis

The Gentiles offers a modern study of identity fluidity, using social media as a backdrop for psychological exploration. By centering the narrative on Ana's internal shifts rather than external milestones, the film avoids many coming-of-age clichés. The film succeeds in portraying the complexity of queer awakening and women's ability to drive the story. It treats the protagonist's digital persona and her private emotional transitions as interconnected elements of a contemporary identity. However, the lack of information regarding racial and ethnic diversity, as well as the absence of characters with disabilities, makes it difficult to assess the film's full breadth of inclusivity.
