New Showbiz Analysis

Lemming's First Case functions as a localized crime comedy that prioritizes genre clichés and plot-driven investigation. The narrative structure relies on conventional storytelling frameworks rather than the deconstruction of social hierarchies. The film centers on a male protagonist navigating professional displacement in Vienna. This focus on regional genre expectations results in a depiction of society that appears largely homogeneous and traditional. Ultimately, the work lacks significant evidence of progressive systemic intervention or storytelling that reflects multiple aspects of identity, operating instead within the established norms of the Austrian crime comedy genre.

Official Synopsis

Leopold Wallisch, nick-named "Lemming", was fired from the homicide department due to intrigues by his colleague Krotznig. Now he works for a small Viennese private detective agency and spies on potential adulterers. When the Latin teacher Grinzinger is murdered while under Lemming's observation, he gives himself a shove and decides to solve the case himself. "Lemming's First Case", an adaptation of the best-seller by the Austrian author Stefan Slupetzky, promises pure crime comedy.
