The Light is a psychological thriller that emphasizes identity and internal conflict over typical coming-of-age stories. By focusing on a child's gender identity and sensory processing issues, the film places psychological complexity at the heart of the narrative. The film effectively dismantles traditional family structures, portraying the home as a source of trauma and instability. This approach provides a sophisticated examination of how divorce and changing family dynamics affect a child's understanding of reality. While the film excels in portraying multi-layered identity and neurodivergent experiences, it lacks sufficient information about the racial and ethnic makeup of the cast to fully assess its inclusivity.
