Joanna Quinn’s animation excels at centering female subjectivity and bodily autonomy. By focusing on Beryl’s obsession with filmmaking, the work challenges traditional gender hierarchies and disrupts conventional depictions of aging. However, the film lacks depth in representing multiple aspects of identity. The narrative appears localized and lacks significant evidence of racial or LGBTQ+ representation, focusing instead on a singular, eccentric character study. Ultimately, the film is a study of individual expression. It succeeds in disrupting feminine archetypes but remains limited in its broader multicultural or identity-based scope.
