Where to Watch

Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

4.0/10

Limited

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film adheres to traditional heteronormative structures. There is no visible presence of non-cisnormative gender identities or same-sex intimacy within the narrative.

Gender Representation

Fair

The plot centers on a patriarchal lineage, focusing on a father passing his role to his son. While female figures like Sacagawea appear, male protagonists drive the primary agency.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Good

The museum setting allows for a diverse ensemble of global historical figures. Characters like Sacagawea and Kahmunrah disrupt a purely Anglo-Saxon narrative through animation.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The story prioritizes Western values of heroism and institutional preservation. It treats non-Western figures as part of a shared fantasy heritage rather than critiquing colonial history.

Disability Representation

Limited

Characters function as archetypal heroes or villains without visible or invisible disabilities. There is no integration of neurodivergence or physical disability into the character arcs.

Strengths

  • Effective use of a diverse ensemble of global historical figures.
  • Disrupts purely Anglo-Saxon narratives by including various ethnic identities.
  • Leverages animation to incorporate a wide variety of cultural characters.

Areas for Improvement

  • Relies heavily on patriarchal lineage and male-led adventure tropes.
  • Lacks visible representation of neurodivergence or physical disabilities.
  • Does not challenge heteronormative structures or provide queer visibility.

AI Analysis

The film succeeds as a colorful, global adventure by utilizing its museum setting to showcase a wide array of ethnic identities. The inclusion of diverse historical figures provides a broad visual and cultural spectacle that moves beyond a singular Western perspective. However, the narrative remains deeply anchored in traditional social hierarchies. The focus on patriarchal duty and the preservation of established institutions limits the film's ability to challenge conventional social structures or explore complex identity-based themes. Ultimately, while the cast is diverse, the storytelling follows standard adventure tropes. It offers representation through character variety rather than through deep explorations of culture, gender, or disability.
