Gender Representation

Good

Liz serves as the central figure of agency, driving the psychological horror. The film explores female trauma through visions of bloodied women, moving beyond traditional damsel tropes.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

The primary cast appears to inhabit a relatively homogeneous social circle. While Minka is a European model, the film lacks significant racial or ethnic intersectionality.

Good

Folk horror elements like ancestral curses and occult rituals prioritize non-traditional spiritualities. The narrative deconstructs the domestic Western ideal through themes of shared guilt and decay.

Strengths

  • Strong female-centric narrative that positions the protagonist as the primary driver of the plot.
  • Effective use of folk horror to explore non-traditional spiritualities and ancestral themes.
  • Subverts traditional romantic tropes by deconstructing the domestic ideal through psychological horror.

Areas for Improvement

  • Limited racial and ethnic intersectionality among the primary cast and characters.
  • Lack of explicit representation for LGBTQ+ identities or non-cisnormative gender expressions.
  • Absence of characters portraying lived physical or neurodivergent disabilities.

AI Analysis

Keeper is a character-driven folk horror that prioritizes psychological depth over demographic breadth. It succeeds in centering a female perspective, using Liz's subjective experience to drive the unsettling plot. The film's strength lies in its thematic subversion of domestic stability. By utilizing occult rituals and ancestral trauma, it challenges mainstream secular or institutional norms through a lens of psychological fragmentation. However, the film remains demographically narrow. The social circle of the main characters lacks significant racial or ethnic diversity, focusing instead on a localized, homogeneous group.
