Remnants is a genre-driven exploration of societal collapse that prioritizes the breakdown of the social contract over demographic variety. Its primary narrative engine is the tension between organized community survival and systemic anarchy. The film critiques institutional stability by portraying the government as disconnected and self-absorbed in a bunker. However, it lacks multi-layered depth, failing to provide meaningful representation for LGBTQ+ individuals or people with disabilities, and its focus on suburban subdivisions suggests a lack of racial diversity.
Category Breakdown
The film does not feature any characters with non-straight or non-cisgender identities. The story focuses solely on the mechanics of survival in a suburban environment.
The story hints at a shift in social hierarchies as professionals transform into warriors. However, specific character's ability to drive the story and control over the story remain unconfirmed.
The middle-class suburban setting often defaults to a homogeneous demographic in this genre. The plot prioritizes class-based conflicts over explicit racial or ethnic diversity.
The film offers a sharp critique of centralized authority. By depicting government officials as ineffective and isolated, it highlights the failure of traditional Western political institutions.
There is no evidence of characters with physical, sensory, or neurodivergent disabilities. The narrative does not address disability within its survivalist framework.

A rare astronomical event causes a permanent worldwide black out, forcing residents of a middle-class suburb to get by with no modern conveniences. This is their story. Written by Anonymous A catastrophic solar flare plunges Earth into global darkness. As society teeters on the edge of total anarchy the President and top government officials are swept away to a Cold War bunker in search of a solution. While the politicians fight insanity and each other, a group of middle-class suburbanites take survival into their own hands. With bullets and seeds, this neighborhood of schoolteachers and businessmen transform themselves into a village of self-sustaining warriors. Can they hold on until power is restored, or will they fall to the starving masses?
