Synopsis

Justin Peck, the New York City Ballet's resident choreographer, created a series of dances for 2018's best actors. The scenarios put everyday characters in familiar situations: packed into a subway car, stuck in a doctor's office, caught in downpour. But once they start moving, the actors turn our common experiences into welcome moments of enchantment.

AI Analysis

Let's Dance utilizes short-form cinematic vignettes to transform mundane urban scenarios into moments of enchantment. By prioritizing movement over dialogue, the film bypasses traditional narrative constraints and rigid social hierarchies. The work achieves a moderate level of progressive value through its deconstruction of the everyday. It replaces standard storytelling tropes with fluid, expressive sequences that emphasize a subjective, experiential reality. However, the abstract nature of the choreography limits explicit character-driven agency. While it avoids heteronormative or gendered archetypes, it lacks the specific narrative depth required for a higher diversity rating.
