13 Eerie functions as a conventional creature-feature that emphasizes survivalist tension over sociological exploration. The narrative structure centers on the visceral experience of characters trapped on an isolated island, limiting the scope for diverse interpersonal dynamics. The film avoids complex identity politics or the subversion of social norms. While it does not actively promote harmful stereotypes, it lacks the intentionality needed to include underrepresented voices or deconstruct established hierarchies. Ultimately, the film remains a straightforward genre exercise, relying on well-known horror conventions rather than using its setting to explore broader systemic critiques or multiple aspects of identity.
Category Breakdown
The film does not include any LGBTQ+ characters or relationships that go beyond the assumption that everyone is straight or cisgender.
Female characters play important roles but are defined primarily by their utility in surviving the situation. The film follows typical gender clichés without challenging traditional gender hierarchies.
The cast is fairly uniform, with little intentional blending of races. Race is not used as a theme or to explore multiple aspects of identity.
The film takes a neutral stance towards Western institutions. It uses a former prison setting for horror without critiquing systemic issues.

Official Synopsis
Forensics students arriving on an isolated island "body farm" get to try out their CSI skills on a bunch of corpses under the watchful eye of their grumpy professor. The island used to house a state penitentiary, where the authorities were experimenting on death row inmates, and now the bodies won't stay still.
