Synopsis

Five paranormal investigators venture into the infamous Farhope Tower, known for its dark history of unexplained suicides, with dreams of landing a Reality TV deal. But they get more than they bargained for when they enter the strangely ever-changing layout, lair of the most powerful spirits they’ve ever faced. For once inside the derelict structure an omnipresent evil begins manipulating the team, and the higher they climb the more everything spirals out of control. For heaven’s sake, don’t go up! From the filmmakers behind 88 and DEAD BEFORE DAWN 3D comes a classy chiller to leave you super-creeped out.

Where to Watch

Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

4.4/10

Fair

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Limited

The narrative focuses on interpersonal dynamics and a central tragedy. There is no explicit evidence of non-heteronormative identities or queer-coded subtext. Romantic conflict remains within traditional frameworks.

Gender Representation

Fair

Female characters like Zoe and Judy demonstrate high agency in a professional investigation context. This challenges the damsel in distress trope, though the inciting domestic homicide follows a traditional patriarchal framework.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

The ensemble appears relatively homogeneous. There is no significant evidence of race-bending or a non-Anglo-Saxon majority within the cast or narrative architecture.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The film critiques the pursuit of capitalist success through the characters' drive for a reality TV deal. It also presents a grim view of the nuclear family as a site of volatility.

Disability Representation

Limited

The film does not explicitly feature characters with visible or invisible disabilities. Paranormal elements function as supernatural forces rather than metaphors for neurodivergence or physical disability.

Strengths

  • Female leads Zoe and Judy possess significant professional agency and navigate high-stakes environments.
  • The film subverts the heroic investigator trope by presenting flawed, driven individuals.

Areas for Improvement

  • The ensemble lacks racial and ethnic diversity, appearing largely homogeneous.
  • There is a lack of representation for LGBTQ+ identities and characters with disabilities.
  • The central inciting incident relies on traditional patriarchal themes of domestic betrayal.

AI Analysis

Farhope Tower is a genre-driven psychological thriller that prioritizes atmospheric dread over identity-driven storytelling. While it avoids some common horror tropes by granting female leads professional agency, it lacks significant intersectional depth. The film's focus remains on the psychological unraveling of a homogeneous group of investigators. It explores themes of betrayal and the instability of domestic structures rather than deconstructing social hierarchies. Ultimately, the work functions as a character study of flawed individuals driven by commercial ambition, offering limited representation across most diversity metrics.
