La taqueria is a character-driven comedy that finds its strength in its central female protagonist and specific cultural setting. Doña Flor provides a rare glimpse of economic authority for a woman in this context. However, the film relies heavily on conventional social clichés. The narrative follows traditional heterosexual expectations and utilizes reductive character archetypes, such as the 'lazy' waitress or the 'drunk' cook, which limits its progressive depth. While the Mexican setting offers cultural immersion, the lack of multi-layered complexity or representation for underrepresented identities keeps the overall score low.
