AI Analysis

Merlin (1998) functions as a conservative retelling of Arthurian myth, leaning heavily into established genre tropes. The film reinforces traditional hierarchies of power, gender, and race rather than challenging them. The production aligns with late-20th-century fantasy norms, focusing on a centralized monarchy to end anarchy. This creates a narrative centered on Western institutional stability and patriarchal structures. Ultimately, the film lacks the intentionality to disrupt social expectations, opting instead for a standard, homogeneous depiction of a mythological Great Britain.
