Inheritance is a localized character study that finds depth in the shared experiences of displacement. By focusing on the connection between a young European traveler and an elderly immigrant, the film moves beyond simple ethnic labels to explore the nuances of being an outsider. The film successfully presents a female protagonist with autonomy and presence. Olinda’s role as a business owner and her assertive personality provide a refreshing departure from submissive female archetypes. However, the narrative lacks visible representation for LGBTQ+ identities and disability. While it offers a meaningful look at migration and aging, it remains a narrow, character-centric drama without broader social identity politics.
