Mario Camus presents a psychological drama that deviates from the idealized domesticity often portrayed in period films. By focusing on a woman's decision to leave her marriage, the film challenges the notion of a perfect household. The film excels in its exploration of female autonomy and the tension between personal desires and family duties. The protagonist is shown as an active force of change rather than a passive character. However, the film lacks depth in representing diverse identities and backgrounds, focusing primarily on a traditional marital structure.
