Two Rabbits is a stylized crime drama that prioritizes a critique of systemic institutional failure over identity-based representation. The film benefits from its setting, using Brazil’s complex socio-political landscape to move away from homogeneous Western narratives. However, the character study remains narrow, focusing on a male protagonist’s actions and leaving little room for diverse gender perspectives or LGBTQ+ narratives. While the film questions state-sanctioned morality, it lacks the layered depth needed for a broader social critique. Ultimately, it functions as a cynical, high-concept thriller, succeeding in portraying a non-Western societal struggle but failing to integrate a diverse range of lived experiences into its core character arcs.
