Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island operates within familiar franchise boundaries, relying heavily on established genre conventions. The narrative prioritizes nostalgic mystery-solving and comedic horror clichés, maintaining a traditionally structured ensemble. Subtle progressions occur in gender and cultural dimensions. Fred’s retirement redistributes leadership, challenging traditional masculine authority. The humanization of the antagonists as a misunderstood family unit introduces moral complexity. However, the film maintains a predominantly white cast and omits explicit LGBTQ+, disability, or neurodivergent representation. The overall diversity score reflects these mixed elements of mild structural refinement against conventional demographic and thematic choices.
