Blue Eyes functions as a sophisticated crime drama that prioritizes psychological depth and atmospheric tension. By utilizing a protagonist who constantly changes appearance, the film deconstructs traditional criminal archetypes and explores the fluidity of identity. The narrative moves away from rigid character studies, favoring a transnational approach through the collaboration between Italian and French authorities. This structural choice suggests a postmodern interest in complexity rather than standard genre clichés. While the film avoids overt identity politics, its refusal to provide a stable, easily categorized protagonist creates a nuanced viewing experience. It positions itself as a cerebral entry in contemporary European cinema.
