Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters and does not engage with non-cisnormative identities. The social landscape remains strictly heteronormative.
Gender Representation
Agency is almost exclusively concentrated in male characters, centering on the investigator's psychological unraveling. Female presence is minimal and does not disrupt the masculine professional dynamic.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The cast is predominantly white and homogeneous, reflecting the remote Arctic Norwegian setting. It lacks the intersectional breadth found in more globalized narratives.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The story explores moral relativism and the deconstruction of institutional authority. However, these themes are framed as personal crises rather than systemic critiques.
Disability Representation
The film depicts a mental health crisis through sleep deprivation and cognitive impairment. This functions as a plot catalyst rather than a study of neurodivergent agency.

AI Analysis
Insomnia is a specialized character study that prioritizes atmospheric tension and philosophical inquiry over social representation. The narrative architecture is designed to isolate the viewer within a fractured psyche, which is achieved through a highly homogenous casting approach. While the film successfully challenges the concept of objective truth, it does so through a lens that remains unconcerned with intersectional identity. The focus stays narrow, centering on the solitary psychological struggle of the male lead within a traditional crime thriller framework.
