The film offers a compelling look at gender subversion for its time. It centers on a woman navigating a male-dominated professional sphere through gender performance, challenging the era's depiction of female passivity and ability to act. However, the work is limited by the era's cinematic conventions. It focuses solely on domestic social dynamics, lacking racial or multi-layered diversity. The use of cross-dressing serves a comedic purpose rather than a deep exploration of queer identity. Ultimately, the film studies systemic barriers. It uses a protagonist's deception to highlight how rigid social structures can be bypassed, even if the broader cast remains culturally homogeneous.
