An instant in the memory of landscape: the smuggling that for centuries crossed the line between Portugal and Galicia. The Gerês Mountains knows no borders, and rocks cross from one country to another with insolence. Smugglers also disobey this separation. The rocks, the river, the trees: silent witnesses that help them to hide. They just have to wait for the night to cross the distance that separates them.

AI Analysis
Night Without Distance is a meditative exploration of borderlands that prioritizes landscape over human-imposed legal structures. It uses the Gerês Mountains to challenge the concept of national sovereignty and geopolitical rigidity. The film succeeds in deconstructing institutional authority by framing transgression as a historical necessity. By centering the narrative on the porous border between Portugal and Galicia, it offers a nuanced, regionalist perspective that transcends mainstream nationalistic frameworks. However, the film lacks specific character-driven data. While the thematic architecture is progressive, there is no explicit evidence regarding LGBTQ+ identities, gender dynamics, or disability representation.
