New Showbiz Analysis

Seitenwechsel is a genre-driven comedy that uses a speculative body-swap device to explore gender performance. By forcing a football coach and a psychoanalyst into each other's lives, the film examines how social and professional roles are tied to gendered expectations. While the film successfully challenges traditional gender hierarchies, it remains limited in its broader social scope. The narrative is tightly focused on a traditional heterosexual partnership, leaving little room for multi-layered exploration. Ultimately, the film critiques rigid social hierarchies within the domestic sphere, while lacking significant representation of LGBTQ+, racial, or disability issues.
