For Peter Parker, life is busy. Between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen Stacy, high school graduation cannot come quickly enough. Peter has not forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away, but that is a promise he cannot keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro, emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn, returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film operates within a strictly heteronormative framework. The central romantic arc focuses on Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, with no visible LGBTQ+ characters or narratives.
Gender Representation
Gwen Stacy is framed as a highly intelligent academic and proactive participant. However, her agency is tied to her romance, and her arc reinforces traditional damsel tropes.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The cast leans toward a homogeneous demographic. While set in New York, the central protagonists and antagonists are depicted through a largely Anglo-Saxon lens.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The narrative critiques corporate ethics through Oscorp's negligence. Electro is framed as a victim of systemic neglect, adding a layer of sympathetic complexity to the antagonist.
Disability Representation
The film explores terminal illness through Harry Osborn’s degenerative condition. This leans toward the tragic victim trope, using illness as a catalyst for villainy.

AI Analysis
The film functions primarily within traditional superhero genre tropes, which limits its impact on progressive representation. While it offers some intellectual agency for its female lead and critiques corporate power, these elements are offset by a lack of diverse central casting. The narrative relies heavily on established romantic and tragic tropes. The central characters reflect a homogeneous demographic, and the treatment of disability serves more as a plot device for villainy than a nuanced exploration of lived experience. Ultimately, the film's adherence to heteronormative structures and conventional casting norms prevents a more progressive score, despite its attempts at moral relativism through its antagonists.
