Sometimes a Hero is a character-driven crime drama that prioritizes individual morality over overt identity politics. It uses genre clichés to examine the breakdown of traditional social protections and the volatility of domestic life. The film gains traction by challenging the 'stable family' archetype. Instead of idealized institutions, it presents a world of systemic corruption and domestic harm, where the protagonist's struggle with financial hardship adds a layer of socioeconomic realism. While the film lacks representation for LGBTQ+ and disabled communities, it avoids reinforcing traditional Western ideals by focusing on characters navigating dysfunction and moral ambiguity.
