The film follows a conventional adventure structure, relying heavily on well-known genre formulas. While it highlights a proactive female lead, it maintains a Western-centric viewpoint of exploration. The incorporation of Aztec mythology primarily serves as a backdrop for conflict, potentially reducing indigenous elements to mere supernatural threats rather than exploring their deeper significance. Overall, the production lacks complexity in representing diverse identities. It adheres to a traditional hero's journey focused on Western discovery without delving into more inclusive or critical narratives.
