New Showbiz Analysis

Tollbooth stands out for its progressive narrative structure, led by a female director in a traditionally male-dominated genre. The film emphasizes the female protagonist’s internal emotional journey and active role in the story. However, the film lacks diversity in other areas. The racial makeup of the cast is unclear, and there are no explicit LGBTQ+ characters or non-traditional identities. Additionally, there is no representation of characters with physical or neurodivergent disabilities. While the film challenges genre conventions through its female-centric perspective, it falls short in providing a broader range of diverse representation.
