Mayday functions as a conventional survival-horror thriller that emphasizes genre clichés over diverse storytelling. The narrative structure relies on the archetype of the capable male protector to advance the plot during the mid-air crisis. While the setting suggests a cosmopolitan environment, the film lacks evidence of diverse casting or deep character development regarding identity. It operates within a standard framework of systemic stability versus an external threat, offering little subversion of social hierarchies.
